ABOUT D@G
The world is passing through a period of transformation and turbulence
of a size never experienced so far. XXIst Century societies are
the most complex, which have ever existed. This complexity will
grow and accelerate. It characterizes several problems to be solved.
It is the consequences of a series of parameters: fast revolutionary
and needed scientific and technological progress; explosion in the
number and diversity of stakeholders directly involved in shaping
opinions and decisions; multiplicity of interdependent issues of
a very large magnitude, often not yet fully known and understood;
extreme rapidity of processes, leading to confusion, disturbances
and quantum leaps; new paradigms in governance; strategic power
shifts in an era of globalisation.
Many of these problems are exceedingly difficult to solve. They
are regularly the sources of intricate conflicts, which add to the
difficulty.
D@G
(DIALOGUES GENEVE - GENEVA DIALOGUES) is rooted in the conviction
that today's societal problems and the conflicts they may be the
source of, to be solved, demand an ongoing informed dialogue and
partnerships among stakeholders. Such dialogue entails the use of
all the tools available for problem solving and conflict transformation,
in short the instruments of effective governance.
D@G
is specialized in the use and the enhancement of such instruments,
and their application to the search for solution of a wide range
of complex societal issues and related conflicts.
D@G
benefits from decades of experiences and activities in many
corners of the world, involving - often at very high level - a very
diverse set of stakeholders with particular focus on large companies,
state and non-governmental actors. Issues dealt with are numerous
and range from science and technology societal challenges, including
health and agriculture, to security and conflicts with political
implications.
D@G
operates in a flexible and pragmatic manner, relying on a network
of thinkers and doers it can regularly call upon. It aspires to
function in the most independent, scientific, professional and impartial
manner. It reacts upon short notice.
D@G
has the legal statute of a Swiss non-profit non-governmental
organisation. It is led by a Committee composed of Issa Ben Yacine
Diallo, Jean F. Freymond, and Jean-Charles Sommer. It is registered
in the Trade Registry of the Canton of Geneva and funded through
mandates and contributions to the D@G
Dialogues Support Fund.
